A) Setup Process

EFI-X™ is designed for internal use. To install the EFI-X™ chip correctly into your computer system follow this short guide.

!!! WARNING !!!

Computers should NEVER be plugged into a AC powersupply when you work on it. So please be sure that all powercables are removed from the computer before installing your EFI-X™ chip.

Step by Step setup instructions

To be sure that all Hardware components are compatibale with the EFI-X™ chip please check your Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) for further information.

Step 1

The EFI-X™ package contents:

- The EFI-X™ chip

- Header usb extention cable

- 3M double sided tape

Step 2

Installing the EFI-X™ chip:

Plug the EFI-X™ chip into an available USB1 header on your motherboard, because the EFI-X™ device is not small, we suggest that you use the extension cable do to that other wires and Hardware components could interfere.

Important note: To plug the EFI-X™ chip in correctly on to the motherboard, look at theonboard usb port and at the chip. The onboard USB headers have one pin missing. For this reason the EFI-X™ has one pinhole blocked. that is how you can orient yourself with.

Step 3

Bios Settings:

1. Enter into the bios interface. Typically press the Delete key ”DEL“ during POST a few times

2. -Set the EFI-X™ to be the disk to boot from.

-Set the boot drive to be the “USB-HDD0”

-change the first boot priority to “EFiX Booting Device”

Standard BIOS settings wich are optional if you are installing mac os systems only

BIOS settings vary from motherboard to motherboard, but there are a few standard settings:

- Change HPET to 64-bit.

- Disable IDE (PATA).

- Disable the Serial port.

- Disable the Parallel port.

- Disable AHCI during OS X operating system installation

(you can enable it after installation if you require hot-plugging)

B) Installation Check Process

To find out if you installed everything correctly, then this is what should happen after you swich on your computer:

1. At first you will see a spinning text icon for a couple of seconds.

2. Next the EFI-X™ graphical bootloader will pop up on the screen. From there you can either install an operating system or boot up from a disk-drive.

NOTE: (if you install for the first time any OS please select your SATA-DVD Rom ICON)

3. The EFI-X™ Startupscreen allows for a few seconds to choose, with help use of the arrow keys and enter key, a boot drive/disk. The countdown above tells you how much time there is left. Otherwise if nothing is chosen, then it will boot automaticly the default drive. You can set the default boot hard drive by selecting the one you want using the arrow keys and the pressing “Shift” + “S”. You can choose a different drive later by pressing “Shift” at the bootloader.

C) Firmware Update Process

You can update the EFI-X™ using the EFI-X control center. The update utility for Mac OS is available at the manufacturer website.

Important note:

Before you start a firmware update process, please check on the manufacturer website on specific actual limitations regarding the compatibility of the planned firmware update with the operating system version of OSX.

According to information of the manufacturer Mac OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) is presently not supported by EFI-X. For detailed up-to-date information please refer to the information base in the forum of the manufacturer.

In every case the firmware update of EFI-X module must be made before an equivalent update of OSX will be made. Otherwise the module can be set to an inoperable state when the version of OSX is more actual than the firmware version of the EFI-X module.
